Troubleshooting
- Why can't I make a secure connection with Eudora?
- There are some problems with Eudora's TLS/SSL. See the
Eudora HowTo for some possible solutions.
- Why can't I log-in/go-secure using Internet Explorer 5.1 on OSX?
- Internet Explorer 5.1 running under OSX (Carbon, not Classic) has been reported to crash
when trying to make a secure connection to Port995 (as requried to log in to your control
panel). This problem does not affect other versions of Internet Explorer or other browsers
such as Netscape, Mozilla or Omniweb. If you are browsing using a proxy server, see
Microsoft's IE5.1 FAQ
for a possible solution.
- Why do I receive error messages when using the control panel in
Opera?
- Opera has a bug which causes it to incorrectly encode
non-ASCII
characters when sending them to the Port995 server. If you are trying to enter characters
such as currency symbols (£, €), accented characters (é, ÿ),
non-Roman characters (Њ, ל, ض, Σ, ザ) or special punctuation
(“, ”, •), the result may be an invalid UTF-8 string which will cause the
server to report an error.
- Why does the Port995 site look odd after I fill out a form?
- Versions of Internet Explorer from 5.0 through to 5.5 for Windows NT4.0 and Windows 2000
have a bug which is triggered by installing a
download manager
(such as GetRight, Go!Zilla or RealDownload). Affected browsers will not apply the Port995
stylesheet when you submit data from a form.
Although the page will look strange, it is still usable and will be displayed correctly when
refreshed. This affects the Port995
control panel, search engine and
application form. Upgrading to
Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2
fixes this. Uninstalling the download manager may or may not fix this. See
Microsoft's
article on this for more details.
- Why is my email getting rejected with "Syntax
Error"?
- If you are receiving bounce messages reporting that your
emails could not be delivered due to a “syntax error”, it may be that your mail
program is using a badly-formed sender address. Please see the
mail program configuration HowTo for more
details.
- Why do I sometimes get the message
relay
access denied when sending emails from Outlook Express for
the Macintosh?
- In order to relay through our server, SMTP authentication is
required in your mail program. Versions of Outlook Express for
the Macintosh prior to version 5.01 do not support this feature
at all. However, in addition to this, while the function is
provided in versions newer than 5.01, the function is
unreliable. Version 5.06 is the first version confirmed to be
consistently functional, and if you are running a version older
than 5.06 then you should upgrade to at least this version.
