Features

At Port995 we provide a multitude of useful features to help optimise management of your email. Administer your account using a standard web browser and enable/disable features as you need.

Storage from 10Mb to 500Mb

Unlike other email service providers we provide the flexbility for you to up your storage requirements as your email needs grow. Start with 10Mb of space and then increase as you need up to 500Mb.

Send & receive from any ISP

Not only can you collect your email using a variety of methods at Port995 but you can relay mail too using Port995 as your SMTP provider (see POP, IMAP and SMTP below for more). This gives you the ability to connect using any ISP at any time so that even if you change your internet access provider you don't have to worry about reconfiguring your email addresses and settings. So long as you have access to the Net you're in business with email at Port995.

Unlimited email addresses (for local or remote access)

Once you have activated your main port995 account you can have as many different email addresses as you like and you can choose to create mailboxes to collect directly from Port995 or you can forward your email to mailboxes provided by other ISP's.

So, you can set up aname@domainname.com or aname2@domainname.com etc and then decide if you want all the email to arrive and be collected from Port995 or if you want to 'forward' email sent to these addresses to a mailbox provided at another ISP. With control over the ability to set up email addresses on-the-fly directly from your web-based control panel.

Use unlimited domain names

Each account comes with a free sub-domain of yourname.port995.com giving you the ability to create individual email addresses of anyname@yourname.port995.com

You can also host any number standard domains (.co.uk, .com etc...) you want for email use within each account. If you have the domain names of 'domainname1.com' and 'domainname2.com', for example, you can create email addresses and mailboxes for either or both at any time.

Ideal for managing multiple email addresses for any number of domains whether for yourself or other people. With each address having its own username and password.

Unlimited Autoresponders

Autoresponders will automatically reply to emails for you, using pre-determined messages which you have written. A common use for this is when you go on holiday. You can configure your autoresponder to send a message back to anyone who emails you, saying (for example) "Thanks for your e-mail. I'm on holiday at the moment, back on the 27th" (or something more interesting). Again, each address can be configured with a different autoresponder.

Active & passive spam protection

There are also a set of tools available within each account designed to help you manage spam or junk mail automatically.

With the click of a button you can activate the facility (with varying levels of protection) to filter out unwanted email before it reaches your mailbox. This passive protection gives you a quick and easy way to reduce unwanted email without much effort. See our Help files under 'Spam Filters' for more details on how this works.

In addition there is the option of utilising our EXCLUSIVE Whitelist active spam protection system which builds a database of email addresses that are allowed to send you email. Anyone not on your 'accepted' list would have their emails bounced and these emails would not reach you.

To get on your accepted list senders simply have to reply to an email they would automatically get from your Port995 account asking them to verify themselves and if they have done so they will be approved by you to receive email. If they don't reply - which is more likely the case by junk emailers - then they will not get on to your accepted list and you won't get their emails.

You can also manually add email addresses to your list to create an on-going and pro-active list of people you know you would like to get emails from - potentially allowing you to achieve 'zero' spam in your inbox.

Advanced Blocking and filtering

Working alongside active and passive spam protection we offer you full control over which mails you receive, and where you want to keep them. We have provided a powerful set of options for identifying emails with certain content, or from certain senders, and dealing with them appropriately. If you are receiving unwanted emails (eg: from a mailing list, or advertising from random companies), you can simply choose to block all of those mails. If you still want to accept them, but divert them into a different folder for storage, this is also an option.

Another common use for filtering is to keep track of mails from different people. By filtering based on the sender's email address for example, you could create a folder for each member of your family, or each person in your business, so that emails you receive from that person would automatically be placed in the appropriate folder when they arrive.

Real-time virus protection

To ensure that emails you receive are not carrying any forms of virus (and also to prevent any viruses that you may have inadvertently acquired being propagated), our anti-virus software will check both incoming and outgoing emails, and quarantine them for you.

Our system utilises the world renowned Grisoft AVG system to keep up-to-date with the latest virus definitions, every 10 minutes!

NB: anti-virus checking via Port995 or any other Internet based system should be seen as a supplementary safety guard as you may derive viruses via a host of other methods incl. floppy disk and web downloads and a local AV system is always strongly recommended.

Assign mailbox quotas

Each email address you create can have its own quota assigned. This gives you the flexibility to limit the qantity of email stored in a mailbox to ensure no one email address (and one user in your account) can eat up all of your account storage space.

IP Masking

When you send an email via port995, our mail server will not reveal your IP address to the recipient of the mail, thereby avoiding many privacy and security issues.

POP, IMAP and SMTP

Port995 gives you the ability to collect your email via POP, IMAP or using our own Webmail system. Most regular email users will already be familiar with POP, which lets you collect your mail from a server.

With IMAP, you can have a set of mail folders on the server, and filter emails into these folders based on their Subject, message body, sender, size and several other criteria. When you connect to the IMAP server, you are effectively synchronising your view of the mailbox with that held on the server, instead of removing the messages permanently (although this is still possible if you wish).

If you cannot use your Internet connection provider's SMTP server for any reason, or you would simply prefer to use ours, you can do so. As well as configuring your mail program to use our SMTP server, you will need to tell it to authenticate. For help on setting this up, see our Help Centre

* Some ISPs block connections leaving their network on port 25 in order to force their customers to use their own SMTP mail servers. If your ISP has blocked connections in this way, you may still be able to send emails by connecting either to port 587 (reserved for authenticated SMTP) or by making an SSL connection to port 465 (reserved for secure SMTP connections). These options are dependant on your email client software allowing specification of the SMTP port, and also requires that your ISP has not blocked these ports.

Webmail for global access

If you do not have an email program, or prefer not to use one, we have a webmail facility you can use to both send and receive emails. The webmail system is a modified version of SquirrelMail, with features including attachments, extensive MIME support and folder management, as well as an address book.

Web-based account management

Our custom-written Administration Panel will give you control over every possible aspect of your email accounts. Add and remove email addresses. Organise email filtering, blocking and forwarding. Set up autoresponders and whilelist/blacklist sender verification.

No more waiting around for your email provider to make the changes you want - you do it.

No attachment limits

We don't apply any limits on the size of emails you are able to send or receive. But remember that 'receive' is limited by the storage allowance you have for your account or mailbox.

In other words if you have an allowance of 10Mb assigned, you cannot expect to receive an email 20Mb in size - so watch those MPEG's!

No advertising inserted

We don't insert any advertising into your outgoing or incoming email.
